Cleaning

  • Vacuum with a soft brush attachment.
  • Spot cleaning only. Stains are usually something that should be handled by a professional. Wet washing will cause the pile to shed.

Accidents

  • If spills occur, absorb liquid immediately with an absorbent cloth by blotting.
  • Synthetic velvet will resist absorbing liquids, but stains like wine or coffee will remain. If that’s the case, you can invest in some home dry-cleaning product, but it is advised to take it to a professional cleaner.

Best Practices

  • You can restore the direction of the pile by using a soft, dry brush following its natural direction. This gives it a new look. This must can be done only if dry.

Avoid

  • Avoid having darker velvets exposed to direct sunlight, which will discolor the material.
  • Don’t keep heavy items on velvet long term, as they will crush velvet permanently.
  • High heat can damage synthetic fiber velvet.
